A video consultation gives us time to go through your symptoms in detail, review any previous investigations and treatment, and agree the right next step — in the same depth as a face-to-face appointment. No GP referral is required to book.

Conditions I Can Assess by Video

A video consultation may be right for you if you'd like advice about:

• Vaginal or pelvic organ prolapse
• Urinary incontinence
• Overactive bladder and urinary urgency
• Recurrent urinary tract infections
• Pelvic floor symptoms following childbirth
• Perineal trauma, including previous third- or fourth-degree tears
• Pelvic floor pain or discomfort
• Problems following previous prolapse or continence surgery
• Menopausal symptoms affecting the bladder or vagina
• A second opinion on diagnosis, investigations or treatment
• Follow-up after previous treatment or surgery

What Happens During a Video Consultation?

Your consultation runs much like a face-to-face appointment — it simply takes place securely by video. I'll go through:

• When your symptoms started
• How they're affecting your daily life
• Previous pregnancies and childbirth
• Previous operations or treatments
• Your bladder, bowel and pelvic floor symptoms
• Current medication and relevant medical conditions
• Previous scans, investigations or clinic letters
• Your treatment preferences and any concerns

You'll have time to ask questions and go through the treatment options available to you.

How the Video Consultation Works

Video consultations are available at a time that suits you, including evenings and weekends where availability allows. You can join from your mobile, tablet or desktop using whichever platform is easiest for you — FaceTime, WhatsApp Video, Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet — with nothing to download or install.

Consultations are available UK-wide and, where appropriate, from abroad — useful if you need advice while travelling or living outside Sheffield.

Fees, Payment and Cancellation

The fee for a video consultation is £350 for a new patient assessment and £200 for a follow-up, in line with my standard consultation fees.

Payment is taken in advance and your appointment is confirmed once payment is received.

Due to unforseen circumstances, I may have to cancel your scheduled appointment but will rearrange it within 24 hours or will refund the money to your bank account.

Can Everything Be Diagnosed by Video?

Many pelvic floor problems can be assessed initially through a detailed clinical history alone. Some, though, need a physical or pelvic examination before I can give a definite diagnosis or treatment recommendation.

If examination turns out to be necessary, I'll explain this during the consultation and arrange a face-to-face appointment at Spire Claremont or Circle Thornbury.

This is why a video consultation works particularly well as a first assessment, a follow-up, or a specialist second opinion.

Before Your Appointment

Where you can, please have ready:

• A list of your current medications
• Details of previous operations
• Previous clinic letters
• Scan or investigation reports
• Details of treatments you've already tried

Join from a quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection.

After Your Consultation

You'll leave the appointment with a clear plan for what happens next. Depending on your symptoms, this may include:

• Reassurance and lifestyle advice
• Referral for pelvic floor physiotherapy
• Medication
• Further investigations
• A face-to-face examination
• A discussion of surgical and non-surgical treatment options
• A follow-up consultation

Where appropriate, I'll also write to your GP.

Is a Video Consultation Right for Me?

A virtual consultation is particularly useful if you:

• Live some distance from Sheffield
• Have difficulty travelling
• Want an initial specialist opinion before committing to a clinic visit
• Need a follow-up appointment
• Would like a second opinion
• Want to discuss treatment options before deciding whether to attend in person
